Valley supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama have organized a voter-registration drive and rally Friday at the Village Cafe.
WyObama ’08 was the spontaneous brainchild of a group of Obama backers including Jim Stanford, Wren Fialka and Renamarie Villano.
“People just stepped up, came forward and said, ‘This is what I want to do,’” Stanford said. “This party has organized itself.”
Beginning at 4 p.m., the Village Cafe will feature music from Front Street Productions, Snake River Brewing Co. beer and a raffle. Valley artist Ben Roth will be selling T-shirts he is making. But only registered voters are eligible to win.
Friday is the last day for prospective voters to register and participate in the county Democratic caucus March 8, when Jackson Hole residents will cast a ballot for their favorite Democratic candidate.
To enter the raffle, residents must bring a receipt from the Teton County clerk’s office showing they registered to vote. The receipt is also good for a free beer.
“This year Wyoming could put Obama over the top,” Stanford said, reminding voters that Wyoming delegates delivered the 1960 Democratic nomination for John F. Kennedy. “Our delegates will be crucial and could make the difference. This is our chance to make history.”
