Snow King scheduled to open on Saturday

After a lack of snow twice prevented Snow King from opening its ski lifts this season, the resort has announced that it will be open on a limited basis beginning Saturday.

Snow King will open its Cougar lift on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 for a full day and $18 for a two-hour pass. Snow King originally targeted Thanksgiving Day as its opening date. That was pushed back to Dec. 10 due to a lack of snow. Now, the resort is set to get its lifts cranked up.

“If Mother Nature is so kind to drop a couple of inches of snow, that would help immensely,” Snow King Director of Recreation Tom Fortune said. “But people are already hiking up and taking runs down. There’s already a solid base.”

Other area resorts also are expected to open more terrain this weekend. Grand Targhee, boosted by over a foot of fresh snow earlier this week, will open all lifts beginning today, giving access to all 2,400 acres of its terrain.

“We are fortunate to have the most open terrain in the northern Rockies, and the second-largest amount of terrain currently open in the U.S.,” Director of Marketing and Sales John Urdi said. “Our 2,400 acres of groomed, glade and powder skiing and riding offer something for everyone, and we are looking forward to a busy weekend.”

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has announced it will open the Bridger Gondola and Casper chair lift beginning Saturday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 90-percent chance of snow on Saturday.
