Best summer weekend for lodging reservations

By Katy Niner, Jackson Hole, Wyo.
July 16, 2009

Every Thursday, the Jackson Hole Daily examines the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles weekly on Wednesday afternoons. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Some lodging nodes in the valley reported more reservations Saturday than at this time last year, according to the latest survey from the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.

Across the board, bookings rose from recent weeks. Weekend bookings are at 82 percent of available rooms throughout the valley — the best showing so far this summer but still a 9 percent slip from the 90 percent logged in mid-July 2008.

This week’s lodging report compares rooms booked for Saturday with reservations for July 19, 2008.

Leading the tally, Teton Village reported 86 percent occupancy for Saturday, an 18 percent jump from the 73 percent of rooms booked for the same weekend in 2008. The outlying Jackson area also improved from last year, with 83 percent of rooms full, compared with 82 percent in 2008.

Advance reservations in downtown Jackson slipped 5 percent, from 96 percent in 2008 to 91 percent Saturday. Accommodations in Grand Teton National Park/Moran suffered the most sizeable decrease of 19 percent, from 98 percent occupancy in 2008 to 79 percent Saturday.
