The case against a Jackson man accused of stealing a 4.39-carat diamond ring and selling oxycodone to a confidential informant will continue in 9th District Court.
Riley Sills, 29, appeared for a preliminary hearing Friday before 9th Circuit Judge Timothy C. Day. Sills was charged in December with delivery of a controlled substance and grand larceny.
Day found there was sufficient evidence to send the case to 9th District Court.
Sills is accused of selling six oxycodone tablets to a confidential informant working with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation in August. Oxycodone is a narcotic drug prescribed to treat mild to severe pain. If convicted of the drug charge, Sills could face up to 20 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
Sills also is accused of stealing a diamond ring while working as a plumber at a Teton Village couple’s home. According to court records, police found the diamond but not the ring on Sills while he was being booked into the Teton County Jail in December. If convicted of grand larceny, Sills could face up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Sills’ attorney, Elisabeth Trefonas, said it has been alleged that Sills has a drug addiction. She asked if officers determined whether Sills was under the influence of drugs before authorities interviewed him.
Teton County sheriff’s Deputy Gary Shaw testified officers didn’t test Sills to determine whether he was high.
