Police are warning people to lock their doors and are trying to identify a man who entered a Jackson home early Sunday and escaped half clothed after a confrontation with the residents.
Jackson police Cpl. Russ Ruschill said the man, who was described as being in his 20s or 30s, about 6 feet 3 inches tall, slender and having shoulder-length blond hair, struggled with a male homeowner after the homeowner found the man rummaging through his bathroom drawers at a house in the Snow King area.
When the homeowner asked the man what he was doing, he said he was a “friend,” Ruschill said. The homeowner told his wife to call police and the suspect attempted to flee through the front door, Ruschill said.
The male homeowner prevented the suspect from exiting, so he ran toward the back door, Ruschill said. The male homeowner again stopped the suspect by holding on to his coat, shirt and vest, he said.
Meanwhile, the female homeowner called police and said a man had broken into their home and was attempting to run away but her husband was holding him down, Ruschill said.
The suspect took off his coat, shirt and vest and ran out the back door and west through the snow, Ruschill said. Police followed the man’s tracks to the area of Aspen Drive, he said. Along the way, police found the suspect had also lost a shoe, he said.
Police released a photo of the suspect’s clothes and asked Monday that anyone who recognizes the clothing call police at 733-2331.
The homeowners were unsure whether their doors were locked, but police found no signs of forced entry, Ruschill said. He advised residents to lock their doors.
Ruschill said it would be logical to assume the burglar might have been looking for prescription drugs because the homeowners found him going through their bathroom drawers, where pills might be kept.
