Police are reminding people to always lock their car doors and never leave valuables in plain view after a recent increase in auto burglary reports.
Police have not identified a pattern, Jackson police Detective Sgt. Cole Nethercott said. The burglaries happened in many different locations, occurred at various times of day and involved many types of items, including cameras, checkbooks and wallets, purses, an iPod and more.
In most cases, owners said they left their vehicles unlocked. However, there were no signs of forced entry in any of the following cases:
• A man reported two sets of binoculars, a folding knife and a camera stolen from his unlocked vehicle between late July 18 and early July 19 at Blair Place Apartments.
• A man reported a camera stolen from his vehicle between 7 and 9 p.m. July 20 on Milward Street.
• A man reported his checkbook and wallet stolen from his unlocked car between 10 and 11 a.m. July 21 on Snow King Avenue.
• A man reported his money clip, cash and a credit card stolen from his vehicle between 1:15 and 5:15 p.m. July 23 near Miller Park.
• A woman reported her purse and a diaper bag stolen from her unlocked car the evening of July 25 outside St. John’s Medical Center.
• A Wilson woman reported an iPod stolen from her unlocked vehicle between 7 p.m. Monday and 7:40 a.m. Tuesday on West Boyles Hill Road.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to immediately call police at 733-2331. Those who think they might be victims also are asked to call police.
