Bookings take a jump as snow finally falls

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles on Wednesday afternoons and posts online Thursday mornings. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.
The valley’s ski season continues to take off as lodging numbers for the coming weekend are up again from last week. And for the first time this year, occupancy rates topped last year’s totals.
Following several days of snow, occupancy numbers for Saturday are at 26 percent valleywide, up from last year’s 25 percent and last week’s 15 percent.
Bookings for Teton Village and vacation rentals are still lower than for the same weekend last year. Village hotels were at 27 percent occupancy, 23 percent lower than last year’s 35 percent, and vacation rentals are at 13 percent, down almost 40 percent from last year’s 21 percent.
Both, however, are up from where they were last week.
In downtown Jackson, bookings are at 35 percent, and at 21 percent in outlying areas of town — up from 25 percent and 16 percent. Last week, those numbers were 18 percent and 16 percent.
