Bookings still strong after Christmas rush

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
January 3, 2013

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer for the week ahead, a gauge of bookings that the chamber compiles Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

While the end of holiday furor has translated into a calmer upcoming weekend for hotels in the area, bookings are still up from where they were last year.

Valleywide, hotels will be 45 percent full Saturday, which is higher than last year’s 37 percent and also above the average occupancy for this weekend, which is 39 percent.

In individual areas, bookings either went up or remained the same compared to last year.

Teton Village numbers continue to be strong, with 62 percent occupancy predicted for Saturday. Last year at this time the village was 52 percent full.

Downtown Jackson and outlying areas of town are at 44 percent and 34 percent. Both of those numbers mark a substantial increase over last year, when occupancy was at 31 percent and 22 percent.

Vacation rentals remained the same for the coming weekend as they were last year at 46 percent occupancy.

All numbers came in above the average occupancy rate for this weekend.
