Forest merger shelved
Officials called off a proposal to merge the Bridger-Teton and Caribou-Targhee national forests after a study found that a joint national forest wouldn’t save enough money and would compromise forest management and service to nearby communities.
Of Cubs and cars
Connor Healy painted his Pinewood Derby car to look like Perry the Platypus. Lachlan Brown designed his as a sleek pickle. The annual Cub Scout event gives boys a project to work on with a parent. As adult leaders know, the memories last a lifetime.
Speed lives
Three giant slalom races at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort over Martin Luther King Weekend kicked off the season for many Jackson ski racers. The Wes Barron Speed Series saw perfect conditions and strong performances from members of the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club.
Woofin’ it
With a new route that spans four states, the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race will keep racers on their toes. Twenty-five teams will take off from Town Square on Friday to determine the starting lineup of the 350-mile race.
Diavolo redux
The acrobatic dance company that first graced the Center for the Arts stage in 2007 is back for two performances. Dancers will fly through the air Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
