Jackson lifts the valley with strong occupancy

By Emma Breysse, Jackson Hole, Wyoming
February 21, 2013

Every week the Jackson Hole Daily looks at the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s lodging barometer of bookings for the week ahead, which the chamber compiles Wednesday afternoon and posts online Thursday morning. Comparisons are made according to percent change, rather than the difference in percentage points.

Lodging numbers in Jackson Hole for the coming weekend are back up after last week’s lag compared with last year.

Downtown Jackson hotels and vacation rentals valleywide both saw large enough increases in advance bookings to balance out slight downturns in outlying Jackson and Teton Village.

Both of the down areas also are slightly below their average for advance bookings over the past three years, while the up areas and the valleywide percentage are above that average.

Projected occupancy for Saturday in downtown Jackson is at 74 percent, a 42 percent increase over the same weekend last year, when the number was 52 percent.

Vacation rentals saw a 16 percent boost, going from last year’s 62 percent to the coming weekend’s 72 percent.

Teton Village hotels will be 75 percent full Saturday, compared with 86 percent full last year.

Outlying Jackson advance bookings are at 38 percent. Last year, hotels in that area were 51 percent full for the same weekend.

Valleywide, those numbers trans-lated into 66 percent occupancy, up from 61 percent last year.
