King’s ransom
Snow King Mountain investors may have difficulty obtaining public money to add downhill mountain bike trails and new snowmaking pipes on the Town Hill because of the rules that govern the state grant program.
Don’t say it
Hundreds of Jackson Hole High School students signed a pledge last week to stop using the “r-word” as an insult. Special Olympics athletes and other disabled students are cheering them on.
Sacred ground
Year after year, dedicated downhill skiers throw themselves from the starting gate high on the face of Snow King, racing toward the valley floor on long, fast skis in the Town Downhill. Top finishers — like this year’s champ, Colby Granstrom, of Lake Stevens, Wash. — complete the difficult course in under a minute.
In the ditch
Organizers of the Dick’s Ditch Classic, Jackson’s answer to the Mount Baker’s Legendary Banked Slalom, took it to another level this year. With separate weekends set aside for skiers and snowboarders, the event is bigger than ever.
Party like it’s 1920
At Saturday’s Roaring ’20s Dance Party, hosted by Dancers’ Workshop, guests will learn the Charleston, sip champagne punch or martinis, wear feather boas, beads and fringe, and enjoy the era of the Great Gatsby and Gershwin.
