County election officials find errors on Nov. ballot
September, 22 2010
By Thomas Dewell, Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Teton County election officials Tuesday discovered two errors on the ballot for the Nov. 2 election and in response will change absentee voting and polling-day procedures.
As currently printed, the ballot tells voters to pick four candidates for Teton County School District No. 1, but it should tell them to pick only three. The ballot also tells voters to pick three trustees for the St. John’s Medical Center board of trustees, when it should direct voters to pick four.
The Teton County Clerk’s office has elected not to reprint the 15,500 ballots received Sept. 16 due to costs, said Sharon Nethercott, county elections supervisor. The ballots cost $4,495, Nethercott said... Full Story >> About the 2010 county elections
Teton County Board of Commissioners
Three seats are opening on the Teton County Board of Commissioners.
Because each party can advnace three candidates to November's general election uring the primary, only those people who vote in the Republican primary will have a selection. Democrats put up only two candidates, incumbents Hank Phibbs and Ben Ellis, which means they automatically move through to November's general election.
Republicans include Scott Anderson, Capt. Bob Morris, Peter Moyer and incumbent Paul Vogelheim.
Teton County Assessor
The Teton County assessor's job hasn't been contested in 28 years.
Yet as Assessor Cathy Toolson prepares to retire at the end of this year, three challengers have emerged for the office. With them, the issue of how the county values property - and how those assessments affect the taxes on homes, lots and business assets - has come to the forefront of the race.
Democrat Dee Buckstaff, who is unchallenged, automatically moves to the November general election. Who will face Buckstaff will be determined this month, as the Republican party has two candidates, Dawn Johnson and Lisa daCosta.
Coroner
With sitting coroner Bob Campbell leaving office, the race for Teton County Coroner is wide open and hotly contested.
Republicans Alan John, Kyle Campbell and James Flower are vying for the GOP nomination, while Steven Ware and Dr. Brent Blue are running for the Democratic nomination.
Unopposed county races
Incumbent Steve Weichman is unopposed in the Republican primary for county attorney. Jim Whalen is unopposed in the Republican primary for sheriff. Dee Mahoney is unopposed in the Republican primary for clerk of district court.
Incumbent Donna Baur is unopposed in the Democratic primary for treasurer.
Incumbent Republican Sherry Daigle and Democrat Kyle Burson are unopposed in their respective Primary races for county clerk. Both advance to the general election.
