Bison hunt starts slowly on refuge, Bridger-Teton

Only 11 bison were harvested in the opening weeks of a 5-month-long Jackson Hole hunt, game managers said this week.

Hunting, which is allowed on the National Elk Refuge and Bridger-Teton National Forest, started with a bang this year. A good portion of the herd had wandered south from Grand Teton National Park, a hunt-free safe zone. They quickly departed once rifles started firing Aug. 15, elk refuge biologist Eric Cole said.
