Much public land on the fringes of Jackson Hole becomes off limits to human activity this Sunday to protect wildlife stressed by limited food and cold temperatures.

Designated winter ranges, which won’t open until April at the earliest, are found in both the Bridger-Teton and Caribou-Targhee national forests and in Grand Teton National Park. They include popular river corridors for fishermen and snow-covered peaks for powder-seeking skiers and snowboarders.
