The driver and sole occupant of an 18-wheeler that went off the road near Wilson is dead Sunday after getting trapped in the cab of his truck.
The man was identified as Jay Winn, but his age and hometown are unknown, Teton County Deputy Coroner Dave Hodges said after a preliminary investigation.
Wyoming State Trooper Dave Richelderfer said the semi was heading east over the pass from Idaho towing a car crusher. The brakes overheated while taking the final curve heading into Wilson and the truck went off the road across from the Stagecoach Bar shortly before 5:30 p.m., he said.
Richelderfer he didn’t have any information Sunday night about whether the truck was overweight. It was owned by Great Basin Inc. out of Oregon, he said.
Debris was scattered throughout the area around the wreck, and the cab of the semi was severely damaged.
One lane of Fall Creek Road is closed until further notice as is the bike path between the Stagecoach and the base of Teton Pass, Teton County Emergency Management announced Sunday night.
Both lanes of Highway 22 are open.
