Bike popularity soars around town

Cyclists pass through Russ Garaman Park, where people can be seen picnicking by Flat Creek.

By Friends of Pathways’ count, 1 million people have walked, run or biked through Russ Garaman Park in the past five years.

“That’s one million trips to work, school, soccer practice, the grocery store, a trailhead or to a friend’s house not taken in a car,” the nonprofit said in a press release. “We think that’s worth celebrating.”

So celebrate it will, with a party for anyone who wants to stop by from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Friday, in Russ Garaman Park. The purpose is to say, as the press release puts it, “thanks a million” for putting local pathways to good use.

“We will have picnic blankets by Flat Creek, locally made tamales, drinks, reusable cups and live music by Bo Elledge of The Canyon Kids,” it said. “So cruise through everyone’s favorite park on what should be a blissful September afternoon, stop and say hi, and celebrate our pathway system.”
