A head-on collision earlier this week killed an Idaho woman and injured a Jackson man.

Two vehicles collided on Idaho State Highway 31 north of Swan Valley, after 24-year-old Nevada Chavez “failed to negotiate a curve” and collided with the southbound car of Zia Yasrobi, according to an Idaho State Police press release.

Chavez, a Victor resident, died at the scene. The highway was blocked in both directions for five hours following the accident.

Yasrobi, 64, was transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. His passengers, wife Brenda Younkin, 45, and a juvenile, did not require hospitalization.

Reached by phone Tuesday, Younkin described the crash as “terrifying” but she said she was fine other than bumps and bruises.

Yasrobi was listed in “fair condition” as of Tuesday night, according to a spokesman for the hospital. Fair condition indicates a favorable outlook with a patient’s vitals stable and within normal limits.

Yasrobi and Younkin are known in Jackson for founding Y2 Consultants, a civil, structural and environmental engineering company, in 2010.
