Update, 6:50 p.m.: One of the people who died in Tuesday afternoon's accident was 65-year-old Craig Edward Aubuchon of Town and Country, Missouri, Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue said. Aubuchon was driving the minivan, police said. Officials are still in the process of notifying the family of the other driver's death, a 68-year-old female from Riverton, Wyoming.
Update, 6:26 p.m.: Highway 89 between Jackson Hole Airport and Moose has reopened.
Update 6 p.m.: A fatal accident this afternoon in Grand Teton National Park is expected to keep Highway 89 closed between the Jackson Hole Airport junction and Moose junction until the early evening or later, according to park officials.
Detours are available via Antelope Flats Road from the north and Gros Ventre Road from the south. Access to the airport is available via the detour from the south.
The National Park Service and Wyoming Highway Patrol are conducting an investigation into the accident, which occurred at about 2:15 p.m. when a minivan and an SUV collided head on.
One victim was declared dead on scene. Multiple individuals were treated on scene and transported to St. John’s Medical Center. One of the individuals was declared dead upon arrival to St. John’s.
Grand Teton National Park rangers were assisted by Wyoming Highway Patrol, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS, Teton County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Highway Administration.
Update 4:10 p.m.: Grand Teton National Park is reporting that the accident has claimed two lives after two vehicles collided about half a mile north of the airport junction. Park officials said expect the highway to remain closed through early evening. Motorists can detour around the closure by using the Gros Ventre and Antelope Flats roads.
Update 3:55 p.m.: Wyoming Highway Patrol is reporting one fatality in the accident involving a minivan and SUV.
Update 3:30 p.m.: The Jackson Hole Airport is still accessible via a detour. Those traveling south toward Moose to the airport can go via Antelope Flats Road and then north from Gros Ventre Junction. Travelers heading north can also use Antelope Flats Road to detour around the closure.
Original article: A head-on collision with multiple injuries has closed Highway 89 in Grand Teton National Park between the Jackson Hole Airport junction and Moose.
Crews are responding to multiple injuries, park spokeswoman Denise Germann said. Officials estimate the road will be closed for about two hours.
Wyoming Highway Patrol, Teton County Sheriff's Office, Jackson Police Department and National Park Service are all responding.
