Teton County, Idaho, parents who filed a grievance with the Idaho Department of Education against former head wrestling coach Jeff Wilkes received notice July 5 that the state would investigate allegations that have included physical assault of students.

Parents sounded the alarm with Teton 401 School District administrators in February after an incident involving Wilkes in a hotel room in Challis, Idaho, where the team was staying for a wrestling tournament. While high school administrators filed an incident report with the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, a school official also called Custer County law enforcement to tell them school officials would be handling the incident “in house,” according to law enforcement.
