Jackson Police Department

The Jackson Police Department is investigating a possible sexual assault of a young child while at a day care.

Officers were called to St. John’s Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon to take a report.

Police could not release any other details because the investigation is active.

No charges have been filed.

If police do make an arrest in the case, the name of the suspect will not be disclosed until the case is filed in district court, per Wyoming law.

The law states: “Prior to the filing of an information or indictment in district court charging a violation of an offense under this article, neither the names of the alleged actor or the victim of the charged offense nor any other information reasonably likely to disclose the identity of the victim shall be released or negligently allowed to be released to the public by any public employee except as authorized by the judge with jurisdiction over the criminal charges.

“The actor’s name may be released to the public to aid or facilitate an arrest.”
