Police investigate violent robbery

Police said a man hit a woman over the head and stole her purse on Saturday.

A woman was driving in Lincoln County on Saturday evening when a man in a blue pickup flashed his lights at her, indicating he needed help.

The young woman said that when she pulled over, the man hit her across the head with an unknown object and stole her purse.

The woman is recovering, and police are searching for her attacker.

“It’s very unusual,” Lincoln County Sheriff’s Capt. Brian Andrews said. “We have some leads we’re following up on.”

The woman flagged down the next person to drive by, who called police.

First responders rushed the injured woman to Star Valley Health with unknown injuries.

The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Bittercreek Road, or County Road 140, near Fairview in Star Valley, Andrews said. There are no known witnesses and no surveillance cameras in the area.

The man is between 25 and 35 with a stubble beard, police said. He was driving a blue pickup truck.

Andrews asks residents of Lincoln County and surrounding communities to call police if they see a man matching the description.

He also said if a driver ever tries to get you to stop, it’s better to pull over in a public, well-lit area where there are plenty of witnesses.

“Keep your safety in mind,” he said.

The incident has Lincoln County residents worried about their own safety. Neighbors are planning a fundraiser to help with the victim’s medical bills.

The woman, from Tennessee, is living with family in the area and is new to Star Valley, police said.
