Coombs Outdoors Program Coordinator Esperanza Carrillo leads her group of cross-country skiers during the Ositos Nordic Program. As a kid, Carrillo spent six years playing in the outdoors with the Coombs program, and now she has flipped roles. She said she loves that she can make an impact as a role model with a similar face and inspire the younger Latino generations. Carrillo recalls a moment when a Coombs student was excited to see a Spanish-speaking coach and asked, “Oh, you speak Spanish, so you eat tortas too?”
