A pay bump is coming for Teton County public school teachers and staff in the 2019-20 school year.
The Teton County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees approved an employee compensation package last week during its monthly meeting that included a regional cost adjustment that increases staff pay between $2,754 and $5,470 annually.
Salaries and benefits account for roughly 87% of the district’s estimated $52.8 million budget. It receives an adjustment to funding based on the cost of living here, 153 percent of the Wyoming average.
The Teton County Education Association, which represents 109 school district employees, said it was pleased with the district’s move.
“We are extremely grateful to the Board of Trustees, Superintendent [Gillian] Chapman and the district leadership team for allocating significant funding towards employee salaries and benefits,” President Jeff Stines and Vice President Jim Rooks wrote in a statement.
They praised a collaborative approach in the budget process, specifically one-on-one meetings with Business Office Director Kristen Voorhees and invitations to sit in on committee meetings and board workshops.
“This collaborative approach to employee compensation resulted in a much improved overall process and final product,” the joint statement read.
Along with the salary change, classified employees — including secretaries, aides, paraprofessionals, bus drivers and food service employees — now qualify for family health insurance during their first year of employment. Previously those employees had to work for several years before receiving that benefit.
