There was a moment at the Jackson Hole High School graduation when I realized I forgot to use sunscreen before sitting in direct sun for the better part of two hours. Even with the red arms and legs I ended up with, something felt so normal about the occasion that it was impossible to not enjoy it. That particular rite of passage carried more weight this year, as kids are moving on from school just as our community is moving forward out of the pandemic.

Graduation coverage requires a lot of time and effort, but it's a momentous time for students, and we want to make sure it's captured in the paper. From notable public high school graduates speaking on the soccer fields to inside jokes shared by Jackson Hole Community School teachers and anecdotes from Mountain Academy students, it was clear the Class of 2021 was happy to see the other side of one of the weirdest school years ever.

And we can't forget the trio of graduates from the Jackson Hole Classical Academy, the first to walk into adulthood from that institution.

Despite the celebration of graduation week, the school district is struggling with the issue of the day — housing and the pressure it puts on the workforce. The school board is looking to make moves on some long- and short-term solutions soon, and it asked staff to come back with information next month to get the ball rolling. — Tom
