Elk Refuge Inn

Summer 2020

The Elk Refuge Inn, perched high on a hill overlooking the National Elk Refuge and Sleeping Indian, is a lot more than what you might imagine or remember it to be. In fact, on TripAdvisor, it’s rated 7th out of Jackson’s fourty hotels.

Four years ago, when longtime resident and businesswoman Monay Olson and a partner bought the inn, both the interior and exterior of the property were completely remodeled. Gone are the outdated, worn furnishings and kitchenettes. Here to stay is a top-notch home-away-from-home experience.

What forever remains is the awesome view and location — just beyond the hustle and bustle of town — making the inn the perfect launching point for all outdoor adventures.

But being out of town shouldn’t mean it’s perhaps out of mind.

“I don’t think we’re always on local’s minds when they have visitors coming to town and someone asks: “Where should I stay tonight?” said Olson. “It feels great when we have locals refer their families or customers to stay here and I love to welcome them to the hotel and hear about why they are staying with us.”

The Elk Refuge Inn became the first establishment in Jackson Hole to reach the Business Emerald Sustainability Tier (BEST). This certification is given to businesses that meet strict environmental, social and economic sustainability standards.

“We take sustainability really seriously,” said Olson. “Our footprint is a high priority for us to blend with our environment, give back to the community and operate a business in a sustainable way.”

The inn’s TripAdvisor cleanliness score is consistently a four-and-a-half or five out of five. Olson attributes the accolade to the fact that the hotel uses professional housekeepers from Premier Green Cleaning (one of her other businesses) to provide daily cleaning services to all guestrooms, lobby and common areas. Premier uses non-toxic, biodegradable cleaning materials and products that disinfect with a 99.9% effective rate.

Due to COVID-19, the cleaning staff’s protocols have changed and they are hyper-vigilant and aware right now, said Olson. Premier also just began using an airless disinfecting sprayer that makes the job of disinfecting even more efficient and effective.

“We clean with a conscience and it shows,” said Olson.
