Jackson Soccer Championship game

Jackson Hole High School senior defender Rafael Silva celebrates Saturday after the final whistle of the 4A boys championship soccer game against Thunder Basin at Okie Blanchard Stadium in Cheyenne.

At halftime on Saturday, things didn’t look good for the Broncs.

Down 0-1 to Thunder Basin, the Jackson Hole High School boys soccer team walked into the locker room worried about a shutout in the 4A state championship. Coach Matt Hoelscher delivered a pep talk and the team came out feeling a bit stronger for the first 18 minutes of the second half. Then with 22 minutes left to play, Mother Nature intervened with a lightning delay that gave Jackson a chance to get pumped up.

“It’s still hard to believe,” senior Leo Harland said of how the game unfolded with the Broncs coming back to win 2-1 in overtime. “That game was crazy.”
