Flat Creek Road closure

One mile of Flat Creek Road leading up to Flat Creek Ranch is closed due to a wildfire in the general area.

A stretch of rugged Flat Creek Road is being tentatively closed for the next week or so to allow wildland firefighters to “remove hazards” from the area.

A Bridger-Teton National Forest press release sent out Monday did not specify what exactly the hazards were.

Upslope and to the east of the road, the small and remote Flat Creek Fire has been burning in the Gros Ventre Wilderness near tree line since Aug. 8. It’s listed at just two-tenths of an acre, and is being allowed to burn to “reintroduce fire into the ecosystem,” according to the Teton Interagency Fire website.

The road closure affects the last 1 mile of Flat Creek Road leading up to Flat Creek Ranch. The closure, which took effect Tuesday, is expected to last until Aug. 31, or when work is complete.
