Lone Star Fire

As of Thursday the Lone Star Fire in Yellowstone National Park had burned 820 acres and was spreading to the northeast, away from the Old Faithful area.

The Grand Loop Road between West Thumb and Old Faithful has reopened after being closed for five days due to heavy smoke from the Lone Star Fire.

The fire is still roughly 820 acres, the same as was reported Wednesday, after "no significant growth," the Inciweb report on the fire said. Heavy rain helped tamp down the fire, or at least slow its spread.

Firefighters plan to hike the Howard Eaton and Shoshone Lake trails toward the heel and northwest flank of the fire to gauge the effect of last night's rain. According to the fire report, 38 personnel are assigned to the fire, which is 0% contained.

Though the Grand Loop Road has reopened, it could close again should fire activity increase.
