Twenty-eight students from Teton County made the President’s Honor Roll during the 2020 fall semester at the University of Wyoming.

To qualify, students must earn a 4.0 GPA and be enrolled in 12 credit hours that use letter grading.

Local students on the list are Zachary Ward, of Alta; Kasen C. Arriola, Kyler Marvin Arriola, Paige Asbell, Brian P. Baker, Kyle Matthew Brimeyer, Elizabeth Chambers, Ashley Corona-Tzompa, Clara Daniele Delahaye, Crispin J. Dippel, Samantha Espinoza, Mark Robles Ford, Nicholas Fredricks, Caden Walker Garland, Sarah K. Greger, Gerald E. Henderson, Broderick C. Hills, Donald Jackson II, Jacob N. Kravetsky, Riley S. Liljestrom, John C. Mercer, Caroline Monroe, Jamison L. Peacock, Hannah L. Rigsby, Parker M. Rowe and Abigail Laurel Zuk, of Jackson; and Samantha Kitchen and Sydney Ann Wiswell, of Wilson.

The University of Wyoming recognized 31 students from Teton County who made the Dean’s Honor Roll and Freshman Honor Roll for the 2021 fall semester.

To qualify for the honor rolls, undergraduates enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours above freshman must earn a 3.4 GPA or better, and freshmen must have a 3.25 or better.

The local students are Sierra Lynn Barlow, Sarah E. Bentlage, Holly E. Brighton, Benjamin J. Brown, Amber J. Budge, Heather Budge, Aliea Guomei Cavalier Ednie, Roney De La Cruz-Morillon, Raychl D. Fairbanks, Jose Garcia Bedolla, Casey Lynn Hartranft, Sarah R. Huggins, Lucy Marie Kirkley, Jacob Leitner, Nicole M. Lohn, Emily R. Mahood, America Martinez, Corah Hadassah Pitman Miller, Finley K. Miller, Jose F. Negrete Oseguera, Xander K. Peterson, Mary Margaret M. Petix, Claire E. Radda, Ian Robinson, Kyle C. Scholtens, Dania-Belen Sinzu-Prieto, Julian S. Web, Jasper W. Welch and Silas W. Wotkyns, from Jackson; Hayden Thomas Collins, of Moose; and Chase W. Bancroft, of Teton Village.

The Jackson Hole Rotary Lunch Club presented its Students of the Season awards Feb. 2 via Zoom. The awards recognize outstanding high school students from Jackson Hole High School, Jackson Hole Community School, Summit Innovations High School, Jackson Hole Classical Academy and Mountain Academy.

Dr. Scott Crisp, principal of Jackson Hole High School, introduced senior Leo Harland, whom teachers say has a positive attitude and strong work ethic and is not afraid to make tough decisions. Harland was a key player on the 2019 state champion soccer team as a sophomore and currently interns with The Nature Conservancy.

Pier Trudelle introduced Rain Oakley from Summit Innovations High School and praised her loyalty, hard work and respect for others. Oakley said Summit has offered her custom learning and social opportunities that have allowed her to flourish. She looks forward to continuing her studies locally at a community college.

Manish Bhatt presented sophomore Peter Warner of Jackson Hole Community School. Bhatt said Warner’s teachers have noted how he is “really strong in the classroom, always with a genuine warm hello and, even under his mask, there is a radiating smile.”

David Porter introduced junior Gus Moeller from Mountain Academy, a student who “plays the drums like a young John Bonham.” Moeller said he is honored to be a drummer for the Jackson Hole Community Band and is setting his sights on learning to play piano and guitar, too. A woodworker as well, he is working on a woodworking YouTube video in Spanish.

Senior Pete Cook was selected as Student of the Season from Jackson Hole Classical Academy because of his resiliency and how he challenges himself and others in ways that make himself and the entire classroom stronger. The Eagle Scout wowed Rotarians by earning his private pilot’s license last summer, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps.

The Wyoming Association of Community Development Education Professionals presented longtime University of Wyoming Extension community development educator Mary Martin its Friend of Community Development award.

Martin, of Teton County, came to UW Extension in 1975 as the county home economist. She later was a county extension agent before advancing to her current title.

“Over the years, our recipient has consistently identified areas where the quality of life could be improved in their community and then worked to pull people together to address those areas,” said Juliet Daniels, community development educator based in southeast Wyoming. “Through her work, funding was acquired and volunteers recruited to work on addressing a wide range of projects and issues.”

Martin has created events to support tourism, programs for seniors, efforts to increase affordable housing, services for marginalized members of the community and increase access to health care, improve financial well-being and support youths in 4-H.

“As a result of Mary’s efforts the people of her community have been actively involved in the decision-making of the community and have been able to institute policies, procedures and projects for everyone’s benefit,” Daniels said.

Martin helped launch Quilting in the Tetons and is in charge of Leadership Jackson Hole. She has contributed to many financial literacy programs, including Planning Ahead, Difficult Decisions bulletins, Master Money Manager Coach training program and many Facebook Live videos to provide money management advice.

“One thing is for sure, you know that Mary Martin will be working hard to support her community and engaging in efforts that will grow and contribute to the community, and the state, for years to come,” Daniels said.

Teton Science Schools recently welcomed Sharon Laidlaw as its first director of online learning.

“As online program offerings become increasingly important to our organization’s success in a pandemic landscape,” said Nate McClennen, Teton Science Schools vice president of education and innovation “we are thrilled to have Sharon coordinate and manage our online programs strategy and opportunities to further develop robust online programming into the future.”

Laidlaw brings expertise as an independent instructional designer who works with education and corporate clients to produce engaging, learner-centered online learning modules. She served as a lead technology design coach for the Austin Independent School District, where she spearheaded special projects and communication for the Technology Department’s transition to remote learning and led a team of blended and personalized learning coaches.
